Maturing as a person is his biggest problem at the moment.

Sportal are pushing a story that Mt Smart are trying to recruit Jayson Bukuya from the Sharks.

Image

According to wikipedia, the 23 year old can play "Second-row, Lock and Centre", but he's started as a 2nd Row on the right for 22 games, the left 5 games, once as a left Prop and 12 times from the bench: a career total of 40 games.

Mt Smart could have a partial replacement for Elijah Taylor and backup for Todd Lowrie in mind. Bukuya is a more effective running player and much better at breaking tackles, but Taylor sets a very high bar for his tackle count. Bukuya reliably plays more minutes than Taylor, but that could be down to the different jobs they have been doing in past.

If you think Mt Smart should be hiring (1) multiple-role players for better injury cover and (2) looking at intermediate experience recruits rather than promoting more rookies from the NYC, Bukuya could be ideal.

Solid player but i don't think second row is the issue.

True. Maybe Mt. Smart are guessing they won't keep Mateo? We'll see.

That might be what they are thinking. If so, might not be too bad at all.

Other Clubs might start to wait if Corey Norman does a re-think on his move from the Broncs.

I know the Canberra guy did it (reneged on his deal with Parra) - but is it too early to start buying for 2014 ? This 30 June thing is odd IMO.

I reckon players should be available to re-sign to their Club - and then with others - after 30 June !

Ah yes, the Josh Papalii episode. Maybe Sticky could exercise some restraint with transfer announcements. He seemed dead certain Izzy would sign for Parra when he didn't even come back to League.

But I take your point on 30 June.

Incidentally, within the last 24 hours the Brisbane Times wrote “Norman still leaving Broncos despite rumours”

Sam Tomkins

Fantastic news....if it's true,

Here he is making (Don't know who) look like a total blouse.

Image

There no confirmation from Mt. Smart yet, but Sportal write that Mt Smart will agree to a three for one swap to get ESL super star Sam Tomkins on board. Imagine that! Clearing out some of the Warrior's inexperienced, under-performing dead wood for arguably the best player in the ESL!

Sam plays Fullback, Scrum-half and Stand-off.

Holy cow that would be one hell of a turn of events to get Tomkins. He's world class. Behind only Slater as far as fullbacks go.

Some feedback today from Matty...

"We are in the market for players and he's a player that is possibly on the market.

"He is not the only player we're speaking to, obviously there is attention around him because he's got some profile in the UK.

"We are certainly not the only club talking to him as well. I am really focussed on who we've got here at the moment.

"The one thing about having belief is having it questioned and we're certainly having it questioned at the moment with some of the things that are happening around our performances.

"I feel like our efforts allow us to win games, but our concentration got in the way."

"It is our responsibility to our members and our stakeholders to make sure that when players of high quality come on the market that we're in the game of trying to get them to come to this fantastic club," said Elliott.

"As I said, there are a lot of players we're talking to at the moment, that's not because we're dissatisfied with who we've got here, it's because we want to bolster our stocks and we want to do the right thing by our members and stakeholders."

So Elliot's comments are suitably PC and non-committal at this stage, but it would provide some hope for 2014 if it came to pass.

Source: http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/rugby_league/4894042/Ryan-Atkins-targeted-by-rugby-union-sides.html

NEW ZEALAND WARRIORS chiefs have been on a flying visit to England in a bid to snap up young prop forwards.

Players such as Wigan Warriors’ Dom Crosby, Sheffield’s Irish international Colton Roche, Tom Lillicrop who is at Dewsbury Rams and Warrington’s Glenn Riley are those being talked about.

More youngsters won't help the experience deficit at Mt Smart, so thankfully these prospects are only at a discussion stage.

However, Sam Tomkins is one import that could change this. Locke needs competition. His best years have been when Lance Hohia also had one hand on the fullback's jersey.

Sheffield’s Irish international Colton Roche:According to Wiki, he plays prop, second-row and centre, but has had only 2 first grade appearances since 2009.
