Eight players from last year’s victorious Queensland Under 18 side have today been selected in the Queensland team to play New South Wales in Saturday’s Holden State of Origin Under 20s match at Penrith.

Brenko Lee, Anthony Milford, Francis Molo, Kierran Moseley, Patrick Kaufusi, Caleb Timu, Luke Bateman and Lloyd Perrett were all part of the Queensland Under 18 side which defeated the Blues 24-18 in Sydney.

Broncos forward Timu also represented the Maroons in last year’s inaugural Under 20s State of Origin match, won 18-14 by NSW.

Timu is one of seven players backing up from last year’s Under 20s team.

The others are Kurt Mann, Hymel Hunt, Moses Mbye, Corey Oates, Chris Grevsmuhl and Brandon Tago.

One player to watch is exciting Souths Logan product Milford, who made his National Rugby League debut for the Canberra Raiders in their round 5 win over the Sydney Roosters.

The talented halfback will be joined in the Queensland line-up by Raiders teammates Brenko Lee and Luke Bateman.

The Broncos, Sydney Roosters and Cowboys will each provide three representatives to the Queensland team, which assembles in Sydney tomorrow.

Former Northern Pride coach and current Canberra Raiders assistant coach Andrew Dunemann will coach the young Maroons.

I've known young Frankie (Francis Molo) since he made the Qld Primary Schools team in 2006. A well deserved selection. :thumb:

Maroons U20s hungry to atone

http://www.townsvillebulletin.com.au/article/2013/04/16/379432_sport.html
ANTONY STEWART | April 16th, 2013

PROUD Queenslander Chris Grevsmuhl says the Maroons under-20s will be driven by a determination not to again be the odd ones out on Saturday.

The National Youth Competition Cowboy was yesterday selected alongside North Queensland teammates Patrick Kaufusi and Zac Santo to battle New South Wales.

It will be Grevsmuhl's second straight appearance in the interstate match at Penrith's Centrebet Stadium and he doesn't need to be reminded that the under-20 Maroons' loss last season is what stands in the way of Queensland's complete rugby league domination.

While the elite boys are going for eight straight in 2013 and the girls made it 15 in a row last week, the 20s were beaten 18-14 last year.

"We want to (turn that around), we're the ones letting the team down," laughed Grevsmuhl, one of seven players backing up from last year's loss.

"We know we've got time, it's only in its second year, but we'd love to even it up."

As well as the three Cowboys, Kirwan High School product and now Penrith Panther Kierran Moseley was selected for Queensland.

All three North Queenslanders were ecstatic to have earned a call-up.

As a senior squad member Grevsmuhl, who has mixed his season between the NYC and the Queensland Cup, has warned them to brace for war.

"We hate them," he said of the Blues. "I'm good mates with most of the players in the NSW team, but it's that Queensland-NSW spirit on the field."

Former North Queensland player and current Canberra Raiders assistant coach Andrew Dunemann will coach the young Maroons.

Team: 1. Kurt Mann (Melbourne); 2. Zac Santo (Cowboys); 3. Hymel Hunt (Gold Coast); 4. Brenko Lee (Canberra); 5. Nene MacDonald (Roosters); 6. Moses Mbye (Canterbury); 7. Anthony Milford (Canberra) 8. Francis Molo (Brisbane); 9. Kierran Moseley (Penrith); 10. Patrick Kaufusi (Cowboys); 11. Caleb Timu (Brisbane); 12. Corey Oates (Brisbane); 13. Chris Grevsmuhl (Cowboys); 14. Luke Bateman (Canberra); 15. Lloyd Perrett (Canterbury); 16. Rhyse Martin (Roosters); 17. Brandon Tago (Roosters); 18. John Folau (Parra).

League Legend Shearer Supports Maroons
QRL Media

Queensland great Dale Shearer is providing the inspiration behind-the-scenes as the young Maroons prepare for Saturday’s Holden State of Origin Under 20s match against New South Wales at Penrith’s Centrebet Stadium.

Shearer, who played 26 Origin matches for the Maroons, has fought his way through a number of personal setbacks and is now enjoying the opportunity to mentor Queensland’s best young talent.

Queensland Under 20s coach Andrew Dunemann said Shearer would present the jerseys to the players at dinner tomorrow night.

“He’s really keen to get back involved (in rugby league),” Dunemann said from Sydney today.

“He has made his own way here and he came and watched our training session this morning. It’s just great to have him around.”

The Maroons assembled in Sydney on Tuesday and Dunemann put the squad straight to work, with three sharp field sessions already under their belt.

Queensland is looking to square the ledger with NSW after the Blues won last year’s inaugural match 18-14.

“I know that the pride and passion in the jersey will be there,” Dunemann said.

“But as with any game of rugby league, it’s about how you execute and how you handle the football.

“So far the signs are good (at training).”

Souths Logan product and emerging Canberra Raiders star Anthony Milford will captain the Maroons. Winton junior and Melbourne Storm fullback Kurt Mann is the vice-captain.

Dunemann said the players were able to strike up an immediate rapport.

“Most of the boys know each other already through last year’s (Queensland) 20s team and the Under 18 side, so we’ve already got some combinations going there,” the former Northern Pride coach said.
