Souths Logan Magpies could soon get the green light to field NRL contracted players once again with the Australian Rugby League Commission set to make a decision on the issue within two months.

The club hopes the commission scraps the duel-registration rule put in place by New South Wales Rugby League last year, stopping Logan players contracted to Canberra Raiders returning to play for the Magpies in the Intrust Super Cup.

"The ruling is currently being addressed and we are expecting an outcome by the middle of this year," Souths Logan president Jim McClelland said.

"Hopefully we can have fly-in NRL players in our squad in game one next year.

"It's been on our agenda for the past 12 months because it's not fair for us to send kids from the area to the Raiders ranks only for them to never get to wear the Magpies jersey."

The current rule means players from New South Wales-based NRL sides cannot cross the border to play.

Logan players contracted to the Raiders, including Anthony Milford and Edrick Lee, therefore must play for western Sydney club Mounties, who also have an affiliation with Canberra.

Souths Logan and the Sunshine Coast Sea Eagles, who are affiliated with the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles, are the only teams in the Intrust Super Cup who do not have access to NRL-contracted players.

"We don't want all 15 players coming over to play and only ask for the Logan-bred players," McClelland said.

"We are happy for eight or nine of the players to play for Mounties and the others with us."

The lack of experience and depth has resulted in the Souths Logan Magpies missing out on playing in the finals since 2007.
