Haven't had the pleasure of meeting this young lad but he has been a stand out for me watching the Townsville Stingers. I must say that he appears to be a good leader around the paddock as well.

Brisbane played some perfect football to blow away the North Queensland Cowboys early in the second half on the way to a 36-34 victory in their round six NYC clash at Suncorp Stadium tonight.

Bench front-rower Tom McLellan came up with two tries for the Cowboys to establish a six-point first-half lead, but a Broncos try before half time followed by another three in a 14-minute period after the break saw the home team kick clear.

The Cowboys slipped to their third straight loss despite captain Jack Svendsen cleaning up a high kick to score near the posts in the 68th minute, centre Javid Bowen careening away for a four-pointer in the 76th minute and halfback Sam Foster adding his team’s sixth try just before full time.

North Queensland had one tackle to save the game before the siren and their brave comeback ended when Javid Bowen was unable to regather his kick ahead.

Hooker Jayden Hodges came up with a massive 50 tackles for the Cowboys, who have shown recently that they can finish games strongly but have paid for long lapses during the 80 minutes.

North Queensland made a perfect start when front-rower Patrick Kaufusi strode through the middle of the Brisbane defence and found an unmarked Zac Santo looming on his inside for a third-minute try.

However, the Cowboys’ lead didn’t last long with second-rower Corey Oates and impressive halfback Ashley Taylor crossing in quick succession.

McLellan’s double came within six metres of each other, showing he’ll be a useful weapon off the bench for coach Todd Wilson.

The rot for North Queensland started when Oates bagged his second off a grubber kick just before half time to bring the Broncos level at 16-all, and they then had Francis Molo rumble over twice early in the second half followed by Taylor’s second off a first tackle kick and chase.

With 76% of possession, and a perfect nine from nine sets to begin the half, the Broncos’ lead rocketed to 32-16.

The Cowboys have slipped to a 2-4 win-loss record entering the representative bye.

Wow, 76% possession. That must be unheard of. You would have thought in this league, the score would have been double or triple that.
