Gee, it just won't be the same without the revered Lambo. Fancy commenting just to say you won't be commenting.

He will be back, ego is a funny thing.....

Easts Carina Brisbane Second Division

HARD, straight and forward was the credo for Easts Juniors on the weekend, breezing to a comfortable 38-12 win against hosts Aspley Devils.

Easts’ forwards were formidable up the middle, consistently eating up metres and sucking in defenders, with standout performances from Jonathon Ofaonoa and Mitchel Evenden.

But it was the backline who got the first breakthrough for the visitors, with Ray Paiena crossing the try line to put Easts up 4-0 after seven minutes.

Aspley’s reply was to gift Easts a penalty straight from the kick-off, opening the door for Paiena to score in identical fashion to his first try, putting Easts 8-0 up with only 10 minutes on the clock.

In the wake of an eight-point deficit, the home team began to string together some solid, consistent sets to put themselves in Easts’ territory for the first time in the game.

But despite a few promising runs down the sidelines, most notably from Shaun Rees, Aspley failed to put together any strong fifth tackle options and mount any real pressure on the defenders.

Easts continued their momentum through the remainder of the first half, notching up three more tries to blow the score out to 26-0 at half time.

Both teams launched their second-half campaigns in very similar style to the first – Aspley with knock-ons and penalties costing them possession and any chance of a late comeback, and Easts looking dangerous.

Twelve minutes down, they hammered in another try, pushing the margin to 32-0.

Finally, Aspley finally found some much-needed aggression in defence, forcing knock-ons, rushed passes and stopping the easy momentum the Easts forwards had enjoyed thus far.

With the ball in hand however, Aspley were still failing to convert opportunities into points until the home team finally fired with 10 minutes to go.

A well-placed kick over Easts’ defensive line early in the set saw Shaun Rees diving outstretched past a defender to plant the ball and wind score back to 32-6.

With the game all but over, both teams notched up a try each in the final minutes, giving Easts their second win of the season.

Molo donning Maroon
Aspley junior Francis Molo will don the mighty maroon on Saturday night after being named in the Queensland under-20 team to tackle NSW in Penrith.

Molo, who plays for Brisbane in the National Youth Competition, was one of eight players from last year’s victorious Queensland under18 side to be chosen in the under-20 squad.

Canberra Raiders assistant coach and former NRL player Andrew Dunemann will coach the young Maroons, who assembled in Sydney on Tuesday.

The Broncos, Sydney Roosters and North Queensland each have three representatives in the Queensland team.
